Free Lunch Program for North Carolina School System Children During School Closings Due to COVID-19 Outbreak
For Mecklenburg, Union and the surrounding counties, local restaurants have set up a free lunch program for North Carolina School System children during school closings due to COVID-19 outbreak.
Everyone’s lives have been changed with the Coronavirus and children who receive free lunches are in serious need of meals right now. With local schools being called off the remainder of the month due to the COVID-19 Outbreak, many local restaurants have taken the lead to fill that void at the direction of one restaurant owner. Where there is a need, people will often do what they can to fulfill that need.
In this case, many kudos to Christopher Sottile of The Loyalist Market for organizing a much needed drive to feed Charlotte area school children. Children who are currently receiving free lunches within the North Carolina School system will be offered free lunches for the next two weeks (through 3/30/2020).
Their mission is to feed local kids lunches as well as to be able write paychecks to some restaurant workers who otherwise wouldn’t have been earning one. Chris has partnered with some of the best purveyors in Charlotte to accomplish a rather lofty goal of serving 3,000 lunches to Charlotte-area youth through the end of this month.
Participating local businesses:
The Loyalist Market
Baked & Tempered
Queen Charlotte Pimento Cheese
Even with the mandate to close local restaurants, this drive will go on. Chris and the other business owners will adapt to the restrictions and post any changes on their Facebook pages. There are now 22 participating locations in every quadrant of Charlotte. Now, if that doesn’t make your heart smile, I don’t know what will!
At the the moment, this is takeout only, but Chris is organizing with volunteers that may be able to assist with delivery. If you can help, please email chris@theloyalistmarket.com. If you can’t get out but, want to help, visit their GoFund me page and donate.
We are loving seeing the residents of our beautiful, giving Charlotte, making a difference and changing lives.
